Subway

While commuting in New York City can be quite tiresome and frustrating, some of the most interesting, entertaining and, at times,  enlightening moments of my day no doubt happen on the subway. This morning - the morning after the first of many presidential contests - a black man wearing gold-rimmed sunglasses and a baseball hat yelled out to noone in particular: "Did Obama win?" As is customary on the New York subway, everybody ignored him. He then leaned over a white, middle-aged businessman's shoulders and peered to see whether the man's Metro paper had the answer. Our businessman evidently found this a little too close for comfort and, as is customary on the New York subway, he pulled away a little abruptly to which the guy with the baseball hat yelled: "Hey man, I just wanna know what happened." An attractive young black girl then saved the day and informed him that, indeed, Obama had won. "Peace -" baseball hat responded.
